Volker Senger’s journey into crafting animal dolls began in the serene town of Obersinn, Germany, where he and his wife Sabine relocated from the bustle of Berlin. Inspired by Sabine’s love for children’s literature, particularly The Wind in the Willows, their creative outlet soon turned into a meaningful business. The couple’s first creation, a stuffed mouse named Philip, was so beloved that it sparked the development of a collection of animal dolls.

The Sengers’ philosophy is rooted in providing an alternative to mass-produced toys. They aim to create sustainable, imaginative, and heirloom-quality pieces. Each doll is crafted using natural, safe materials sourced locally. The velvety fur is made from organic cotton, handwoven in one of Germany’s last remaining mills, and the stuffing – whether sheep’s wool, spelled chaff, or cherry stones – comes from sustainable, regional sources. The sheep’s wool is harvested from shepherds whose flocks graze open fields, promoting biodiversity and environmental care.
