Founded in 2017 by multidisciplinary designers Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo, Wax Atelier blends craftsmanship, sustainability, and contemporary design. Based in East London, this innovative studio specializes in handcrafted beeswax candles and wax cloth, reimagining traditional materials and processes for modern living.
The founders, Lely, born in Hanoi and raised in London, and Thibault-Picazo, a French designer with a background in music and anthropology, connected through a shared passion for preserving and transforming heritage craft techniques. Their material of choice, natural wax, embodies their ethos: versatile, tactile, and endlessly reusable. By exploring wax's potential, they create products that seamlessly combine form, function, and storytelling.
Wax Atelier’s candles are crafted using a time-honored dipping technique, requiring multiple layers and days to set. Alongside candles, their wax cloth, made from linen coated with beeswax and jojoba oil, offers a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic wraps. Every piece reflects their commitment to low-impact production and local sourcing, including UK beeswax and natural dyes such as green tea.
Deeply rooted in community, Wax Atelier collaborates with East London residents through workshops and training initiatives, fostering shared craftsmanship and sustainability.
